St. Al's students participate in a community service cleanup in Kibera

Every one of St. Al's students is "HIV/AIDS affected." Those not from sub-Saharan Africa often ask what that means. In short, it means the lives of our students have been profoundly affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. Most of our students are HIV/AIDS orphans--they've lost both of their parents to the disease. The other students have lost one of their parents to the disease and are watching their surviving parent suffer from HIV/AIDS.

Despite the deficits of their family background, each and every one of our students is also a child of God. Our students share many of the same hopes and dreams of their wealthier counterparts in Africa and around the world. We have created this school to help them make their dreams a reality.

We are currently working on a series of profiles about our students that will help our friends and supporters in Kenya and around the world better understand our students and their lives. Please check back soon to read these profiles.
